SMBC Singapore Open 2019

Round 1 report: Order of Merit title holders faces opposite result

SMBC Singapore Open is literally stormed by bad weather, and the plays has been stopped so many times for the past 2 days. 26 groups could not finish the Round 1 holes on 17th, and they resumed play at 7:32 this morning but it was stopped again at 8:54 due to bad weather. After 1 hour and 51 minutes delay, game resumed.

Round 1 leader was Poom Sakusansin and Japan's Order of Merit title holder. Not Shugo Imahira who had to withdraw due to fever during the weather delay, it was Challenge Tournament Abema Tour's Order of Merit champion, Taihei Sato.
Taihei did not have the Japan's Tour Card on his debut year in 2016, so he went on to play in China Tours to gain experience. He has won on those China Tours, which often was delayed by bad weather, so similar to this year's Singapore Open.
"I am used to delays and bad conditions."

Taihei managed to move up to 6 under at the end of the Round 1 which took 2 days to play. On his Round 2 which started right after, he stumbled on 3rd for bogey and double bogeyed the 4th, but somehow, he picked up himself and managed to play even for the 2nd round.
"I am so glad that I get to play 1 full year at the tournaments. So, I decided not to make any goals. I want to concentrate on each and every tournament."

As for Shugo Imahira who had to withdraw, he took the safer plan to go back to Japan right after he game. He has The Masters waiting in April, must be ready in every way.
"Physical maintenance is big part of the job too."
Japan Tour's Order of Merit title holder left the site with regretful expression on his face.
