On Sunday, the awarding ceremony was held at the club house of Sodegaura CC. The Bridgestone Open was shortened to 36-hole event due to the Typhoon. Shugo who made a birdie finish on Round 2 to total 11 under and solo leader eventually became the 5th player to defend the Bridgestone title. With the prize money, even it would be 50%, still Shugo has made back to the top of the Money Rankings and got closer to defending that Title too.

On Friday, Round 2, Shugo made it in 2 at the Par 5 18th with 5W from 245 yards. He saw that 3 players were tied at the top and knew that he had to go aggressive for the 12-meter eagle try. He got it close enough for tap in birdie, which turned out as his winning putt.

On Saturday, Shugo was resting in a hotel nearby when so many "congratulating messages" came into his phone. At first, he didn't know why, but as soon as he found out on the JGTO website that the Final Round was also canceled, he recognized that he has finally made the first victory of the season.
"It didn't hit me that I won, since it happened on the off day."

Shugo had finished as runner up for 3 times, made into the Top 10 for 11 times. Finally, he was able to win this week, but it became 36-hole event. But still, with win is a win.
"I wish that I could have won on the 4-round tournament, but my goal for this season is 3 wins. Now I have 1 under my belt. I won last year at this tournament and became No.1 on the Money Rankings. So, I would like to repeat that good momentum and defend my Order of Merit Champion Title. Last year, I felt that I was able to become the Order of Merit Champion because I was lucky. But this year having Ryo Ishikawa on my tail and so many great players like Jazz and Yosuke Asaji, who are all having 2 victories already, I need to brush up my golf and fight hard."

With the win, Shugo has earn the rights to be in the US PGA co-sanctioned ZOZO Championship. He has been on all 4 Majors this season but failed to make the cutline.
"I saw on the net news that the only player who missed the cut in all 4 Majors was me and I felt ashamed. I don't know if it was a jetlag, but I couldn't play like I always do, my body felt so fatigue and heavy. But ZOZO Championship will be in Japan, so I can play full powered. I want to aim for finishing within Top 10."
