Players awaits to meet with Mr. Baseball again at the tournament titled under his name

Yuta Ikeda always wears orange trousers on the Final Round at Shigeo Nagashima Invitational SEGASAMMY Cup Golf Tournament, since it is the color of the team Yomiuri Giants, that legendary Mr. Baseball, Shigeo Nagashima has played in.

Yuta is 33 years old, so he could not see Shigeo Nagashima play as professional, but his father was big fan of the Giants and admired Mr. Baseball. He was told by his father that Shigeo Nagashima is not only a treasure for the baseball world, but he is our county's treasure.

In 2007, from the 3rd year, the tournament was given the honor to have Shigeo Nagashima's name as the title. He uses to come to the course every year to cheer for the players. Yuta was fascinated to meet him, but he also really wanted to win in front of him.

Yuta has won 4 times in Hokkaido, his first win was in this prefecture too, but unfortunately, he has not yet conquered this venue. His best finish here is 4th, and this year was 5th. Also, Shigeo Nagashima couldn't make it to the course 2 years in a row. Due to health reason, he didn't come in person. But has sent messages to the players that he will be watching their exciting battle on TV. Yuta wanted to report his victory over the TV broadcast but couldn't do it again.

Mr. Baseball sent a comment after the tournament saying that he wishes to go next year and feel the great Hokkaido summer breeze. He also sent congratulating message to Ryo Ishikawa saying, "2 victories in a row from the Japan PGA, wire-to-wire win, first player to win this tournament multiple times and it was 15th Anniversary tournament. I knew Ryo Ishikawa was born under the star, but he really showed it."

Ryo responded "I am overwhelmed that he gives so many warm thoughts for me. It is an honor to have his name on the tournament and it give all of the players high motivation. I wish him to visit us again soon, and I would really want to do great golf in front of him."

All of the players wish Mr. Baseball's return to the tournament, they all hope that will come true next year.
