SMBC Singapore Open 2020
Matt, Justin and all of the superstars in great positions ready for the Final battle tomorrow
He had 3 back-to-back birdies today, 1 & 2, 14 & 15 and 17 & 18. On the last 18th, it was very long but almost an eagle, which took a glance at the edge of the cup. Matt ended the day with a tap-in birdie, and the crowd roared.
"The course is fabulous, and the city is great. I am enjoying every moment of this."
This is Matt's first tournament in Singapore, but he is really close to winning it.
"I really want to make it to Tokyo 2020."
As for the Olympics list, Brooks Koepka is No.1 on WR and is on the top. Rio's Bronze Medalist Matt is at 22nd on WR and 13th on the list. USA does receive 4 slots, but it seems not easy to make it onto that list, but it is also too early to give up.
On the other hand, the Gold Medalist of Rio, Justin Rose was tipping his hat off to Matt's superb game as they played along.
"Compared to what Matt was doing, my good shots faded away. I knew I had to finish the round with some up notes. I was glad that I made 2 birdies in a row at last."
Justin scored 68, and totaled to 11 under, 6 shots behind Matt to chase tomorrow.
"Catching Matt is not easy, but I might score 62 tomorrow. You never know."
Of course, the winner nominees are not these Gold and Bronze Medalists only. Defending Champion Jazz Janewattananond is at 2T with 3 shots behind.
"Last year I fought against world class star player Paul Casey and win. Tomorrow I will get to play with Matt, so I am looking forward to it."
Last season's Asian Tour Money Winner seems excited about the head to head battle.
Also, Miguel Tabuena, who was also Rep of Philippines back in 2016 Rio, is at 2T with Jazz. As for the Japanese players, Ryosuke Kinoshita sits at 8T, on 10T Tomoharu Otsuki, Mikumu Horikawa, and Rikuya Hoshino stands. As for Ryo Ishikawa, he plunged to total 1 over par to 46T.
"My iron shots are out of control and couldn't get any chances. I couldn't get things going onto good momentum. I hope I could get things adjusted tomorrow."
Top 4 players out of 12T finishes, excluding who have already been exempted will be given the right to enter the British Open 2020, which will be held from July 16 to 19 at Royal St. Georges.
