Shota Akiyoshi self‐destroyed his chance for victory again
"I had to do it again. I self-destroyed my chance to win. I am so frustrated and disappointed."
Shota was leader until he finished 16th, but on Par 3 17th, he made a mistake which cost him a bogey. Suddenly he was 1 stroke behind the leader.
But the battle wasn't over yet. Last hole 18th is a Par 5, but reachable in 2. With an eagle, he could win, even with a birdie it will be a playoff.
"But it ended as a nightmare. My tee shots found the fairways all day today, so I felt confidence. But I guess I tensed up too much."
Tragically, his tee shot went way right. Resulted as OB. His 3rd shot also ended in trees. Eventually, Shota got on the green in 5, 2 putted for double-bogey.
He started as a Final Round leader, but victory slipped away. Sadly, this was his second time this year. He lost at The Crowns hitting 74 on the Final Round and dropped to 4th.
"I did not want to cry over the same mistakes again. But with that OB, there was nothing left for me to recover."
Shota couldn't shake off his regrets for a while.
