Top Cup Tokai Classic 2019

Ryo Ishikawa barely made the cutline at "Top Cup Token Classic" and sits at 52T

Ryo Ishikawa started out at 18T at even, but he plunged with scoring 4 over today, including 1 double bogey, 4 bogeys and 2 birdies, and fell back to 52T, just on the cutline.

It was gusty wind condition at Miyoshi CC today.
"It was really tough to play today under the windy conditions, but many players are doing well, so wind in not the factor, it's my fault not getting to play well enough."

His iron shots didn't help him to give him enough birdies chances, and also his driver shots has lost its accuracy. He also miscalculated the wind few times.

"Even I hit some good shots, I miscalculated the wind. The wind I was feeling on the ground level was totally different from the ones in the sky. Especially the winds from the sides were difficult to estimate the effects on the yardages. I was too long and too short at many times."

Ryo suffered battling the wind and after his turn, he had made OB on 12th to end up with double bogey. Next 13th, he also bogeyed but Ryo recalls "I wasn't too concerned with the cutline. I didn't want to play safe just to make the cutline. That will be meaningless for me."

So, he went aggressive on Miyoshi CC's signature hole Par 3 16th, where the cliff is located on the left side of the green.
"I wanted to go straight for the pin no matter what my score of position was."
Ryo shot with 6I and got it on to 10 meters to the pin. On 17th, where he pulled the tee shot to left, he also got caught in the bunker and couldn't get it up and down and had 7-meter to save par but "I wanted to go for it even I end up doing 3 putt". His putt didn't make it and he bogeyed that hole but seemed to be satisfied with his decision.

"It was really strong wind today and the wind changed too much, so it was really hard to play. My tee shots and iron shots trajectory are high, so it gets effected by the wind a lot. But I should have calculated that and make course management, but I couldn't in my front nine. So, I wanted to play aggressively with a smart shot management for the back nine."

Ryo has made his entry for the 50th Anniversary event on Saturday, the Long Drive Contest.
"My last few holes todays weren't too bad, so I will try to play with that style tomorrow."

Ryo cannot end the memorial 50th year tournament without another fight on the weekends.
