Top Cup Tokai Classic 2019

Past tournament winner Seung-Hyuk Kim jumps up to 3T to show he is back on track

Seung-Hyuk Kim started out from 10th, where he got into trouble getting caught in the back-side bunker, but he managed to save pat by making 3-meter. He also saved par on 11 and 13, then his first birdie finally came at 14th, by jarring 5-meter. From there he got his momentum and made 5 birdies in total.

Later on, due to the strong wind blowing down with the effect from Typhoon 18 moving along the Japan Sea, he did make 2 bogeys on 6 and 8, but managed to close the Round 1 with 3 under par.

Seung-Hyuk Kim has won here in 2014. This Miyoshi CC has a nickname of "unconquerable", but Kim has a great memory from winning here before, so he says, "I feel relaxed and play well here".

This year, the depth of the nasty rough is a bit shorter than usual, and that seems to be helping Kim too. He has been missing the cutline 4 tournaments in a row since RIZAP KBC Augusta, and his game is not in good shape but "I think my golf is getting better since last week".

Seung-Hyuk Kim is really looking forward to making this Anniversary week as his most waited 2nd victory on the Tour.
