Japan Golf Tour Championship Mori Building Cup Shishido Hills 2019

Chan Kim marks the course record at the very well-known tough Shishido Hills

On Wednesday, Chan Kim received a joyful surprising news that he got a spot at US Open next week. He was doing great already last week, almost had the winning cup on his hands. But he was doing super great on the final round of this week's Major and scored a course record 62.

He had eagle on 2nd hole, 3 straight birdies from 4th hole and so on. Chan Kim made a Sunday charge by making 9 under for the day and made the leader's very concerned.

"I am glad that I was able to make the course record. I am happy with the score, but I am regretful about the bogey on 18th. If I could have scrambled it by saving par, then it would have been perfect."

Chan Kim has been seeing wire-to-wire winner Mikumu Horikawa close by. On May 27, Chan Kim has lost in the playoff to Mikumu on the last slot for the US Open.

When Chan Kim holed out, the lead was still 4 shots.
"I don't think Mikumu will fall down 4 shots, so I don't think I have the chance."

This week, Chan took in the lost against Mikumu, but they will battle together next week on the US Open. After the US Open sectional, Chan Kim was the No1 on the substitute list and he was given the invitation to the Pebble Beach on Wednesday.

Chan Kim will fly back to Korea today and depart to Pebble Beach on Monday.

"Mikumu has a steady golf. He is really good with putting. He is very talented so he will surely have the chance at the US Open, but I think I can say the same for me too. I am looking forward to battling off with him at the Major."

Chan Kim has gone through tough times due to his injury, but he is all well now and came back to the top group of the Japan Tour in enormous speed to catch up to where his left off.
