Shigeo Nagashima Invitational SEGASAMMY Cup Golf Tournament 2019

Reason why Shugo Imahira had to make the cutline today

Last year's Order of Merit Champion, Shugo Imahira had a unpleasant round yesterday, scoring 2 over par at tied to 82nd. But he had to do better than his best in order to make it to the weekend. Today, August 23rd was his caddy's birthday. Shugo handed a present to his caddy before they started off today. The present was a wristwatch and an MBL Angels T shirt.
"I wanted to give him something he can use, so I gave him a watch again this year along with his favorite baseball T shirt. But the must present to his caddy was to make the cutline today. I can't miss the cut and end the 23-tournament streak of making the cutline on his birthday."

On Round 1 his driving accuracy was not good enough and couldn't keep it on the fairways.
"I couldn't strike it on the sweet spot, but I added some weight on the heel of the clubhead this morning at the practice round and I was back on the right track."
He easily marked bogey free 5 under today and made safely onto the weekend.

At this Shigeo Nagashima Invitational SEGASAMMY Cup Golf Tournament, Shugo has always finished within top 3 since 2015's first appearance. Now the provisional leader is Ryo Ishikawa.
"Ryo seems to be in great condition, so it might be tough to catch him, but if I could get a bit closer tomorrow, I may have the chance. So, I plan to go aggressive tomorrow."

May be, Shugo might be able to give bigger birthday present to his caddy on Sunday afternoon.
