SMBC Singapore Open 2020

Rio's Bronze Medalist Matt Kuchar runs away with the victory with Golden smile

Exciting seesaw game was shown at the Final Round of Singapore Open today. It was dead heat battle between the overnight leader and Rio's Bronze Medalist Matt Kuchar, Rio's Gold Medalist Justin Rose and Defending Champion Jazz Janewattananond.

Matt made 5-meter birdie on 4th hole to widen his lead, but nightmare accident happened at 7th hole. His tee shot landed by the tree trunk, and he missed to contact his ball on his 2nd shot. He got it out on his 3rd, but another unlucky happened on his 4th shot as it went over the spectators and made a huge bounce on the cart path which bounced again into the bushes. He had to call "lost ball" and ended up making a triple bogey.

On the same 7th, Jazz made birdie to tie at total 15 under. But today's spotlight was still on Matt. Matt made 3-meter birdie on 11th to take outright lead again and from there, he never loses that position, even with Justin Rose making 4 birdies on his back nine.

Matt made his win almost concrete when he made the birdie on 16th. Jazz with 2 bogeys on 12 and 13 made it hard to catch Matt, but he closes the game with beautiful bunker shot which lead to a birdie finish. As for Justin, he had another birdie chance on 17 but couldn't make it and on the Final 18th, he missed his tee shot and gave Matt plenty of breathing spaces.

Matt only had to play it safely on his Final hole, but he somewhat missed his tee shot which got caught in the fairway bunkers, very close to the ridge and he had to lay it up. But he made magnificent 3rd shot to the green. He had almost 10-meter putt left, he could 2 putt for par and he would still have 2 shot cushion, but Matt drains the 10-meter birdie putt to closed the tournament with style.
