JGTO New Year Greeting Message from JGTO Chairman Isao Aoki
Wishing everyone a Happy New Year.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude for your continuing support of Japan Golf Tour Organization.
Looking back in 2021, the season opener SMBC Singapore Open in January was unfortunately cancelled due to the wide spreading of the COVID-19 globally. Domestically, the state of emergency was declared a numerous time due to the number of people who were infected with COVID-19 has increased.
Under the difficult environment, we were able to host the tournaments starting in April, and we were able to successfully complete 24 JGTO tournaments, 12 AbemaTV tournaments through the December 2021.
We are deeply grateful of the fact that we were able to hold the Japan Golf Tour tournaments throughout the year, and this was the result of the great efforts and passion of the tournament organizers and sponsors who have hosted and supported these tournaments.
Despite the various restrictions placed for COVID-19 preventive measurements, there were a several great news on men’s golf in 2021.
Among them was Hideki Matsuyama winning the Masters Tournament in April, becoming the first Asian player to win the event. This historical victory gave all of us great dreams and hopes, as well as a lot of courage for the Japanese people during the difficult time dealing with COVID-19. Matsuyama continued his success by finishing 4th place tied at the Tokyo Olympics Games in the summer. Furthermore, we were very impressed by his outstanding performance, when he triumphantly returned to Japan and won the ZOZO CHAMPIONSHIP, a jointly hosted by the PGA Tour and JGTO in October.
Following in the footstep of Matsuyama, many of the young tour members of the Japan Golf Tour were also greatly inspired. The year 2021 was a year in which the rise of young players was particularly remarkable.
The last year was filled with these excitements and we were very fortunate enough to host JGTO tournaments throughout the year. We also regret as we had to place strict restrictions on numbers of golf fans attending these tournaments as a part of the COVID-19 preventive measures.
We regret that golf fans were unable to watch and feel the performance of players on the course in person to cheer them.
Under the difficult environment, we have actively used social media to connect with golf fans and convey messages from the players. We have received so many passionate thoughts and messages from many golf fans and realized that players performance will help energize our society and the people.
At JGTO, we want to connect not only with golf fans, but also with tournament organizers, volunteers, players, and the society we live in, regardless of age or agender. To accomplish this goal, we have started a brand-new initiative called "Discover Your Green" to make that connection happen.
We would like you to get connected with us through our website and social media activities.
We have recently announced the new tournament schedule for 2022 season, and thanks to you, the number of tournaments has increased from the last year. Some tournaments are still under negotiation, so we may have more tournaments for 2022.
We hope that this year, many golf fans will be able to come to the tournament and support our players in person. We look forward to your continuing support and cheering the Japan Golf Tour 2022.
