Iwasaki holds slender lead as Park gives chase at weather-hit Fujisankei Classic

South Korea's Sanghyun Park boosted his hope of winning a second Fujisankei Classic title after making a significant move at the weather-disrupted tournament on Friday.

Park, the 2019 champion, was two-under-par through 11 holes when second round play at the Fujizakura Country Club was suspended due to inclement weather in Yamanashi prefecture.

Starting the day in tied-14th, Park made three birdies on holes five, eight and 10 to offset a lone bogey on nine.

Park is now five-under for the tournament and part of a three-way tie for second alongside Hiroshi Iwata and Genki Okada who sit one shot adrift of leader Aguri Iwasaki.

Iwasaki traded three birdies against as many bogeys to claim the provisional outright lead before the round was halted at 5.21pm local time.

A total of 52 players who have yet to complete 36 holes will return in action at 6.45am Saturday. The penultimate stage will not start before 9.20am (local time).

Naoyuki Kataoka, who shot 64 to lead the first round, slipped to tied-14th on two-under with two left to play.

He dropped seven shots no thanks to five bogeys and a double bogey and managed just two birdies to be five-over for the day.

The international trio comprising South Africa's Jbe Kruger (even-par through 14 holes), South Korea's Sanghee Lee (three-under through (through 13) and American Todd Baek (three-over through 13) are sharing the 14th spot.
