Gunn impresses with runner-up finish in Qatar, Tanihara comes in fifth

Things are certainly looking up for Thailand's Gunn Charoenkul ahead of the new JGTO season.

The 30-year-old registered his best result in three years when he finished second at the Asian Tour's International Series Qatar on Sunday.

Gunn saved the best for last at the wind-swept Doha Golf Club, finishing the challenging week with an impressive four-under-par 68 to finish three shots adrift of winner Andy Ogletree on a four-under-par 284 total.

Gunn’s previous best outing was finishing outright third in the Hong Kong Open in 2020.

Playing on JGTO is expected to form a part of Gunn's schedule after he secured limited status by being placed 26th in the final stage of the JGTO Qualifying Tournament in December last year.

Hideto Tanihara was the JGTO member who stood out in Doha, posting a 72 to finish in a share of the fifth spot.

Together with Gunn, they were the only six players among the 70 in the weekend who overcame the punishing conditions and finish with under-par scores.

The other Japanese representatives who made the cut included Ryosuke Kinoshita (tied-22nd, five-over 293); Jinichiro Kozuma and Kaito Onishi (tied 47th, eight-over 296); Ryo Histsune (tied 51st, nine-over 297); and Tomoharu Otsuki tied 57th, 10-over 298).
