Strong performances propel Hoshino, Nakajima at Qatar Masters

Rikuya Hoshino remained firmly in contention at the Qatar Masters after shooting a four-under-par 68 on Friday to climb to a share of second place.

Hoshino, who's playing in his second full season on the DP World Tour, amassed six birdies to offset two bogeys at Doha Golf Club to reach the halfway mark at seven-under 137.

Haydn Barron of Australia seized the second-round lead following a fine 67, sitting two shots clear of his compatriot Harrison Endycott (68) and Hoshino.

Keita Nakajima returned a much improved 67 to be just four shots off the pace, redeeming himself from last week's missed cut at the Bahrain Championship last week.

Nakajima will be determined to add another good result to his DP World Tour campaign after coming joint fourth at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship a fortnight ago.

Masahiro Kawamura ensured Japan is well represented on the weekend after signing for a 71 to be tied for 23rd on 141.
