Yutaka Morohoshi takes the helm as new chairman of JGTO

Following the conclusion of the 12th Annual General Meeting and Extraordinary Board Meeting of the Japan Golf Tour Organization (JGTO), Yutaka Morohoshi has been appointed as its new chairman.

The 77-year-old Morohoshi steps into this esteemed role and he is the fifth generation following Kosaku Shimada (first generation), Tadashi Koizumi, Katsuji Ebisawa and Isao Aoki.

Hailing from Kanagawa Prefecture, Morohoshi becomes the fifth chairman in JGTO's history, joining a prestigious lineage that includes Kosaku Shimada, Tadashi Koizumi, and Katsuji Ebisawa.

Joining Morohoshi in key leadership positions for the 2024-2026 term are four vice-chairmen – Hideto Tanihara, Masahiro Kuramoto, Hisahiko Inoue, and Naoyuki Arai.

Additionally, JGTO professionals Ryo Ishikawa, Mikiya Akutsu, and Mikumu Horikawa will represent the voice of fellow professionals as part of the 11-member Board of Directors.

With Morohoshi's extensive experience and leadership, all eyes are now on him as he aims to guide JGTO to even greater heights.

Morohoshi's career spans a diverse range of experiences.

After graduating from International Christian University, he held professorial positions in both Japan and the United States, currently serving as a Professor Emeritus at Minnesota State University.

His involvement in major events such as the Olympic Games and the FIFA World Cup, alongside his tenure as JGTO's vice-chairman focusing on international affairs, underscores his deep understanding of sports management and administration.

During the inaugural press conference following the AGM, Morohoshi articulated his vision for JGTO's future: "I aim to enhance JGTO's stature with the support of Vice-Chairmen Kuramoto, Tanihara, and the entire board.

"By prioritising player welfare and delivering value to our sponsors, we will strengthen our international competitiveness and showcase our collective efforts."

Vice-Chairmen Kuramoto and Tanihara echoed Morohoshi's commitment to excellence.

Kuramoto pledged: "We aim to increase tournament opportunities and fan engagement while reaffirming JGTO's founding principles. Together, we will elevate the Japanese tour to new heights."

Tanihara expressed the same optimism, stating: "Under Morohoshi's leadership, we will strive to better serve fans and sponsors, leveraging the energy of our young players. Your continued support is invaluable."
