Nakajima turns attention to Olympics after Open exit

Reigning JGTO money list champion, Keita Nakajima will turn his attention to the Olympics after missing the cut at The Open following his second round eight-under-par 79 at the Royal Troon Golf Club on Friday.
 
The 24-year-old bettered his opening 80 but his two-day total of 17-over-par 159 was never enough for him to progress into the weekend rounds where the cut was set at six-over.
 
“It’s certainly disappointing as results are everything. I did not get the right results but that’s golf. Hopefully, I will get a better result at the Olympic Games next,” said Nakajima.
 
Nakajima was among the seven JGTO members to have missed the cut with only South Korea’s Song Young-han booking his Saturday tee time where he will play with American Andy Ogletree at 10.30 (local time).
 
80 players including Hideki Matsuyama, who posted rounds of 75 and 72, will be back for the weekend. They will attempt to catch second round leader, Shane Lowry, who is bidding to win The Open for the second time since his maiden victory in 2019.
 
Lowry holds a two-shot advantage over Englishmen Daniel Brown and Justin Rose. Among the big name causalities who made their early exit include Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Keegan Bradley.
