HEIWA PGM CHAMPIONSHIP 2018
Toshinori Muto thanks 3 grand chefs for his great Round 1
"It was pretty tough day today. Read the wind and also the greens wrong."
He started to talk negative, but he continued the sentence by saying "but my shot making was good enough to keep the low score."
Toshinori carded bogey-free 65, having 3 birdies in-a-row on both nines, recovered very well from the trouble as well. Toshinori started from the 10th, where he punched out from the sand to 2-meters to the pin, and saved par.
"On par 5 18th, I went greedy and aimed from the bunker to the green in two."
His second shot got stock at the lip of the bunker. His forth shot from the 80 yards didn't get close enough and left him 5-meter par-putt, but he saved it
Toshinori thanks his great first round to the playing partners from Wednesday's Pro-am.
"It was really fun and meaningful Pro-am rounds"
His playing partners were, 3 Big name chefs. Rokusaburo Michiba of Japanese Cuisine, Hiroiki Sakai of French, and Kenichi Chin of Chinese. These 3 used to fight each other on TV shows cooking battles.
"They are all elders, but plays so well, putts great. They are still very powerful."
3 chefs are so fond of golf, they go overseas to have golfing vacation together. Rokusaburo Michiba is almost 90 years old but still vigorous, Kenichi Chin plays so dynamic just like the way he cooks.
May be their cooking style is shown in their golf as well.
"They make up their mind so quick. Doesn't wonder before hitting. After playing with the great chefs, I felt a bit ashamed from getting upset over little mistakes I make."
Thanks to the wonderful collaboration by the 3 grand chefs, Toshinori's team finished 2nd Prize at the Pro-am.
"They really gave me power! I wave been away from winning in 3 years but, if I can do it this week and get my 7th victory, I will take my winning prize money of 40 million yen and go to 3 chefs' restaurants to celebrate."
