Asia Pacific Open Golf Championship Diamond Cup Golf 2019
Season rookie from NZ Denzel Ieremia jumps up to solo 2nd with today's best score 66
23 years old from New Zealand, Denzel turned Pro in February this year. He graduated from Iowa State University, but during his amateur days, he couldn't make much result and his ranking was at 180's. He had no where else to play except for Australian Tour.
This week, he was given a invitation from the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation(APGC), host of this tournament, and he used all the chances he can have.
His strength is driver shot, which he can carry over 310 yards. Sobu CC in known for very narrow fairways and lots of hazards, but he easily flies over them and only has short game left to target the firm tough green.
"This is the hardest course I've ever played, but my driving was perfectly straight today, and I was able to get close to the pin with short irons and give myself some chances."
First time ever to play in Japan but sits at very close range for the win.
"Japanese people are all so kind. The course is beautiful and very thrilling to play, and the food is great too. I especially love Miso Soup. You can't get that in New Zealand often."
This tournament is co-hosted by Japan Tour and APGC, if he wins, he could achieve both tour cards.
"I am just a rookie, so if I could get the chance to play in both of the tours, that is wonderful. I really want to give it a chance to grab that victory."
Born in the well-known Rugby power country, Denzel has relatives who used to be a member of "All Blacks". With powerful play and gentlemanly smile, he has surely made many fans already at Japan Tour on his first appearance here.
