ANA Open 2019

Newly Greek national Peter Karmis jumps up to co-leader after Round 3

Originally from South Africa but has changed his nationality to Greece trying to obtain the chance to be elected on the Olympics National team. Peter played bogey free 6 under today to total to 14 under which got him to the top of the leader board with Ryuko Tokimatsu going on to Sunday.

Peter has drained a 2-meter birdie putt on final 18 to close his round by catching the leader. He has shown his joyful little dance and said, "I am so excited." Peter recalled his round and said that "my shots were not so good, but my putt saved me." Peter had great help from the Wattsu Course house caddy who knew all of the greens. He even got the 15-meter putt that broke to right for 3-meters.
"Thanks to my caddy, I was able to make a bogey free round."

This 66 finish gives Peter great hopes. He came to the Japan Tour by finishing at 7T on the QT rankings. He is from South Africa which has so many great players like Charl Schwartzel and Trevor Immelman. Peter has 5 victories on Sunshine Tour and Asian Tours, but he really wanted to make it to the Tokyo Olympics next year, so he changed his nationality to Greece where his father had the citizenship of.

This season he is fighting hard on Japan because the season is opposite and enables him to play on both sides of equator.
"If I could win on Japan Tour, that will bring me closer to my dream."
Peter faces a big chance tomorrow to get one big leap toward his "spot" on the Olympics team.
