Japan Golf Tour Championship Mori Building Cup Shishido Hills 2019
Ryo Ishikawa bursts with joy with bogey free round at Shishido Hills
Shishido was never his favorite course, but on 3rd Round, he was able to finish with first ever bogey free round of 68.
"I am really happy. I want to jump up in joy."
He chose this Shishido as his tournament come back game. He restarted his left over 2nd Round from yesterday at 6:40. His restarting hole was bogey and another bogey followed right after.
"I got up at 2:30 am, done some training menu. I was thinking that if I miss the cut, I would go back home around 9:30 and go to a different course to practice."
He was on his way to giving up, but with the birdies on 13 and 15, he was able to move on to the 3rd Round.
"I am so glad to be able to play on. This round gave me a positive answer."
Since Ryo's shots are mainly draw, and at Shishido Hills where many varieties of shots are required, it makes it difficult for Ryo to hit tee shots with confidence. Which led to not making the cut 4 times out of 6 attempts. His loss of confidence on the tee shots made him use irons instead on the 1st Round. But at that round on 18th, an idea arose.
"I like iron shots, so I used to hit the drivers with the same feelings. But on that 18th, I shot my driver in upper trajectory. It still went left but it felt right. I recognized that driver and irons are totally different things. Thanks to that comfortable feeling, I can swing the drivers with confidence now. I had so many hard times trying how to manage this course, but with my driver problem solved, I can see this course totally differently now. I was always given a tough homework from this course and I was pushing myself to solve it. Those trail and errors made me recognize my golf. I am thankful to this tournament for giving me that chance."
He knew the road will be tough, but he chose this Major as a come back stage. But that courage must have given him the chance to find answers. He has one more round left.
"I am really looking forward for tomorrow."
He will start from tied to 31st, but he is eager to show that he has really made the "come back" with an impressive game tomorrow.
