Yuta Ikeda made a Saturday charge and jumps up to the Top on the leader board
"My driving distance as well as my control is at the tops, so I didn't feel much difficulties on this course today."
Actually, he was complaining with his playing partner Chan Kim, "why wasn't the first 2 rounds set at more than 8000 yards?"
Today, as we were all be waiting for, all of the tee boxes were set all the way back, and the total yardage counted up to 8016 yards. This number didn't frighten Yuta, it motivated him.
Yuta made 4 consecutive birdies from 3 to 6 holes. There was a bogey on 8th but bounced back with a birdie on 9th. Then in his back nine 13th hole, 551 yards Par 5, he shot his 2nd with 3U from 238 yards to the back of the green. He had 5-meter eagle try from the edge of the green and made it with putter. Then on 16th hole, 705 yards Par 5, he made 3-meter and once went to 9 under. Magnificent birdie rushes made him look like he was playing in different dimension. But on 17th Par 3 his tee shot went way left, made a shot game mistake which lead to a double bogey. And on the finishing hole he couldn't save the par putt and had to close the day with a bogey.
He felt frustrated with the result of the finishing holes but said, "In any sort of circumstances the score is the result of my play. Today I was doing great but couldn't hold it until the end. I made it worthless with last 2 holes mistakes."
His score for today was 66, which is tied to the course record, but he is far away from satisfying.
"I will restart tomorrow fresh from the scratch."
Yuta will be playing again with Chan Kim tomorrow in the final group, also another big driver Won Joon Lee will be among the 3. 2 big guns will be charging after Yuta, but that kind of situation makes him pump up. The exciting stage is perfectly set for Sunday.
