HEIWA PGM CHAMPIONSHIP 2019

"Mr. Consistency" Shugo Imahira plays his own way not being bothered by "dancing tiger"

Heiwa PGM Championship will head on to the Final Round tomorrow and Shugo Imahira, current No.1 on the Money Rankings is showing off his "consistency" without a doubt. He is now at 2 nd, 1 shot behind the leader Ho-Sung Choi.

Shugo made a birdie start on 1st, made another birdie on 6th, but suffered a bogey on 8th. Then he really stumbled with 2 straight bogeys after the turn. Today's wind was the worst among these 3 rounds.
"I wanted to break the bad mood by not making any more bogeys, so I told myself to stick to saving par strategy."

On the final few holes where players could check the score boards, Shugo calmly made his plans and changed his gear to aggressive play.

On 17th, 400 yards Par 4, where many players choose to lay up, "I went for as long as I could" said Shugo and made a giant swing with his 1W, which carried up to the front rough of the green. Then he took his SW to make the 108 yards shot to 70cm of the pin. This birdie made him become co-leader at this point. Then Shugo finished 18th Par 5 by making his 50 yards 2nd shot to 2-meters back of the pin and drained to make 2 straight birdie finish.

Shugo cringed to solo 2nd, 1 shot behind the leader Ho-Sung Choi. Tomorrow will be the first time for Shugo and Ho-Sung to battle up in the final group on the Final Round, but they have been in the same group 5 times in the past and 3 of them are in this season. So, Shugo is aware of Ho-Sung Choi's unique playing style.
"It's amusing to watch him perform, but it doesn't bother me. So, I would like to enjoy playing along with him tomorrow."

Shugo's goal is to defend his Order of Merit Title. He has finished in top 10 13 times out of 20 tournaments he has played. He finished at 2nd last week, his 4th time this season, and became No.1 on the Money Rankings. No one, not even laughable "Tora-san dance" could interfere with Shugo's concentration.
