Fukushima Prefecture is known for the good luck doll Daruma, which has more than 300 years of history. This week at the Dunlop Srixon Fukushima Open, 1st 9th, 10th and 18th hole will have Daruma as tee markers.
When you make a wish for the good luck, you place an eye on the Daruma, so on the 18 th Daruma, Defending Champion Shota Akiyoshi had the privilege to draw the eye. His wish was off course to defend his title.

He was able to win 2 times last year, but he is far away from being satisfied. He made a rule to stay as bald headed until he finishes in top 10. His best finish so far is 11th at The Crowns.
"I am having hard time with my game. I didn't know where I was going to be honest."

But he has found his way at the Shishido Hills.
"On the final round, I kept things simple. Hit my driver and gain distance, get close to the pin with my iron, and hole in the ball with my putter. Very simple thinking, but it gave me the good vibes and I got my game back in action."
He was able to make 7 under par Sunday charge and regained his confidence.

"I was able to get my shots back. Now I am able to hit the way I want to."
So, with his confidence back at his hands, he didn't go to the hair cut this week, so his hair is bit longer.
"I am growing my hair now, because I know I will make top 10 this week. Actually, I am aiming to defend my title. I think I can avoid the bald hair style this week. If I can't do it this week, I will probably end up bald headed until winter."

Shota is also a Srixon sponsored player, and he was greeted warmly at the sponsor's dinner. His wish is to give back to the sponsor by defending the victory.
"I will try my best as one of the host pros and also as a player who loves Fukushima."
