ZOZO CHAMPIONSHIP 2019
Hideki Matsuyama expresses his deep desire to win in front of his country's fans
"I was surprised to see so many fans came here today since it was terrible weather. I was so happy to be cheered in Japanese, since you don't get that much in US."
Hideki will be in the pairings with Jordan Spieth and Adam Scott for the first 2 rounds.
"Jordan was playing so well last week, and I played with Adam 3 weeks ago, so I feel very comfortable playing with them. I hope all 3 of us could play well and live up to fans' expectations."
In Japan, Hideki has won 8 times including the ones he won as an amateur and he was Order of Merit Champion in 2013. In US PGA Tour he has won 5 times, most wins among the Japanese player, and his best World Rankings has reached 2nd at one time.
"This is first ever time to have US PGA Tour tournament in Japan. It will definitely be exciting week. I am so happy to be able to play in home country and I deeply desire to win this week."
Hideki is back in Japan to his name carved into the history. He hasn't won for the pat 2 years. He finished 3rd at the CJ Cup last week by playing bogey free 65 on the final round, but he seems to be not even close to be satisfied with his game.
"I know my game is not at the best, but I know that could be changed by the cheers from the Japanese fans. So, I would like to expect for good chain reaction."
