A rookie Tomohiro Ishizaka takes advantage on the chance given due to the pandemic
Tomohiro Ishizaka has played 2 rounds bogey free.
"This course has wind factor and is known as tough course. So, I tried to make fewer mistakes. Even when my shots were bad, I have confidence in my short game and putting to make recovery."
As he said, on final 18th where his 3rd shot went over the green, but he managed recover that damages by his short game to save par.
Regularly, this big purse tournament has many International big names invited and will be filled with top JGTO players. But due to the pandemic, empty slots were given to a rookie like Tomohiro.
"I am not qualified to be in this field. I always watched the tournament on TV."
For a 25th on QT Final player, this was one in a million chance to have. And he is making the best of it by finishing as a leader after 2nd Round. If he should win, it will be first rookie victory in Dunlop Phoenix history. He will also renew a record like; youngest Japanese player to win at Dunlop, a win by QT player, etc.
"I only wanted to play at this tournament. I am so grateful that I was able to be in this field."
He started to play golf at 10 years old, before that he was into baseball. In his junior high school days, he has won in many of the national tournaments. He has won Kanto Amateur in 2018 on his college freshman year, then in 2019 he has won as individual and as a team at National Athletic Meet. At Japan Open in that year, he finished at 23rd and took away the Low Amateur trophy.
"I admire Ryo Ishikawa, he is my icon. I admire him as a player but also as for his kind personality. He is so kind to the fans. I want to become like him."
