Golf Nippon Series JT Cup 2020
22 years old Yuwa Kosaihira has a great chance to renew the Youngest Winner record at JT Cup
"Yesterday my ball couldn't find the fairways. So I practiced until my shot was fixed, then today I was able to keep the fairway for the whole round and got myself the chance to aim for the green."
Yuwa made the turn with 2 under for today, then on his back nine his shots stuck to the pin in many of the holes. His birdie putt on the 14th was only 30cm. His 7-meter eagle try on the 17th licked the edge of the cup for an easy birdie. Yuwa made 7 birdies today and his 64 got him to head into the weekends as co-leader with Chan Kim at total 8 under par.
"This is the tournament I really longed for. I remember clearly watching Yusaku Miyazato making his first Tour victory in 2013, broke down in tears. I was 15 years old. I want to win like he did. That is my ultimate wish."
Yuwa played for 3 tournaments this season and finished in top 10 twice. He has succeeded to earn the chance to come to this prestigious JT Cup.
"The course that I admire, Tokyo Yomiuri is really tough course, but I enjoy every moment."
On his R2, Yuwa was in the same grouping with Hiroyuki Fujita, who is the only player that has won this tournament 3 in a row.
"Hiroyuki is amazing on his putting. I was excited seeing his great technics with my eyes."
Yuwa has been challenging the Korn Ferry Tour and played 18 tournaments while going back and forth from USA to Japan. He stayed in his hotel room except for the times he spent on the course.
"I did get home sick, but I put up with it and did my best."
Yuwa really loves to play golf so he is always the last one left at the course every day on tournament weeks. He is trying to brush up on his English abilities, so he is always listening to western music.
"I plan to go back to US from February next year, so I really want to win this week and achieve 3-year Japan Tour seed before I go."
If 22 years old Yuwa wins this week, he will renew the Youngest Winner record of JT Cup set by Yutaka Hagawa back in 1981 at 23 years old.
