Golf Nippon Series JT Cup 2020

Takumi Kanaya closing in on the first ever Tour Rookie "back-to back victory

"Wow what a shot!"
A loud voice was echoing at the Tokyo Yomiuri CC on Saturday. It was Ryo Ishikawa praising Takumi Kanaya's play. Since there are no spectators, Ryo's voice was heard pretty loud. It was at 10th, as Takumi made great recovery shot from down the cliff to the green. He made his shot bounce for cushion on the left side bank and roll it to 2-meter to save par.

Then 11th, Takumi was in trouble but managed to make very long bogey putt to make his minimum. On next 12th, Takumi made chip-in birdie from the right side od the apron and astonished his playing partner Ryo.

The temperature was 6 degrees Celsius and drizzling rain took away the body heat.
"It was miserable weather, and it could easily break our concentration."

Players had hard time controlling their shots, and distance declined as the temperature declined.
"I was upset of myself. I just couldn't hit it straight" recalled Takumi.
"I was barely able to cover my miss shots with my short game."

But that short game also failed him on 16th and Takumi has showed his anger for a moment, which he never does.
"I can't control the score, so I must do whatever the best performance I could do on each and every shot", refrained Takumi.

Ryo Ishikawa has been in the same groupings with Takumi for R2 and R3. Ryo is amazed of Takumi's putting and referred him to world's top-class players.
"I think Takumi is like Jordan Spieth type of player. Jordan could play so well with his senses. He also has great imagination and tough mentality. I love playing along with him."

Last month at VISA Taiheiyo Masters, Shingo Katayama who was in the same group as Takumi also called Takumi's play as "the golf" and said he loved Takumi's play.

Fans may not be at the course but getting great compliments from players he admires is good enough. Takumi managed to finish as 3T and there is only 2 shots deficit. He still has the chance to make back-to back win by a rookie following his win at Dunlop Phoenix.
"This is very tough course, so I must not lose my patience and play tenaciously no matter how the condition gets severe. I will keep this in mind tomorrow and play tough."
