Fujisankei Classic 2020
Rikuya Hoshino makes V2 at Fujisankei CL after tough 3-hole playoffs
Rikuya started the Final Round as solo leader, but suffered a trouble getting caught in the water hazard on 7th hole. This pulled him down on the leader board with double bogey, but he got up again with making 3 birdies on the final few holes.
If he had made the birdie putt on the closing 18th, it would have been a putt for the win, but he had to settle for a par and went on to the playoffs with club house leader Mikuni Horikawa, who had bogey free round with 7 birdies today.
The playoff was long and tough one, as both made par on first 2 holes. On first playoff hole, Mikumu got caught in the bunker on his 2nd shot but make a great sand save for par. Rikuya had a long birdie chance but couldn't manage to hole it.
Then it rained heavily during their 2nd playoff hole, where they both got in on the green in 2 but had pretty long putt to handle. Both ended with par and the battle went on to the 3rd playoff hole with a different pin position from the regulation.
On the 3rd try, both had long birdie putt chances, where Mikumu couldn't make, and with the similar putting line, Rikuya took advantage and holed his winning putt.
Rikuya made his V2 at Fujizakura, following his first ever Tour victory in 2018, and the big bonus is the exemption to the US PGA co-sanctioned tournament ZOZO Championship in October.
Runner-up will be Mikumu Horikawa, new Player's Chairman Ryuko Tokimatsu and Taihei Sato finishes at 3T at 8 under. Order of Merit Champion Shugo Imahira and World's No.1 rank Amateur Takumi Kanaya finished at 5T with 7 under. Ryo Ishikawa finished with Even at 21T.
