Token Homemate Cup 2021
Top class battle has begun! Amateur Keita Nakajima vs Super Rookie Takumi Kanaya
Keita commented after the round that "I hope I could be in the same group with Takumi Kanaya in the Final group on Final Round."
Then in the afternoon, Takumi Kanaya answered back with also scoring 65. Takumi made magnificent performance on 17th as he smashed his 3W from 250 yards out to the green and darted the pin for an easy eagle putt. Takumi finished at 10 under total, 2 shot lead against Keita.
"I have played with Keita on National Teams and been abroad on International tournaments. We shared rooms occasionally and we are really good friends. We played together on the practice round this week. I get very motivated playing with him. I think we are rivals."
Takumi is also excited to go head-to-head with Keita.
"Nowadays, there are not much of the difference between Pros and amateurs. There are so many great amateurs on the Tour, so who ever plays great that week takes away the trophy."
Keita's record from 3 tournaments he appeared last season was, 18th at Japan Open, 3rd at SMBC VISA Taiheiyo Masters, and 8th at Dunlop Phoenix Open. Also in last November, Keita became the World's No.1 Amateur replacing Takumi who has turned Pro.
Keita's most wanted goal is to follow Takumi's footsteps and win at the professional tournament as a Pro. Which Takumi has done at 2019 SMBC VISA Taiheiyo Masters, also following Hideki Matsuyama's footsteps, and became 5th amateur to do so.
"I know for the fact that even amateur could win, as Takumi has showed. So, I will wait for my chance and grab it."
The 2nd Round in the rain caused Keita to make 3 putt double-bogey on the 11th, but he bounced back on 12th and 14th. Then on his back nine, he made tap in birdie on 2nd, and went on making a birdie charge from Par 5 4th. His second shot from 105 yards on 5th found the bottom of the cup for an eagle, then he went on making a 9-meter birdie putt on Par 3 6th.
Unfortunately, Day 3 will be cancelled so this great match between Keita and Takumi will be 1 day dead heat on Sunday.
"I don't know what will happen, but there is nothing I could do about it so I will concentrate on my game and have a steady faith on my game", smiled Keita.
