23 years old Naoyuki Kataoka became the "First Champion" of the Japan Players Championship

23 years old Naoyuki Kataoka accomplished to win on his 4th challenge on the Regular Tour. He scored 68 on the Final Round, totaling at 15 under par to capture his first ever victory on a prestigious inaugural tournament.

At one moment 5 players including Ryo Ishikawa and Ryuko Tokimatsu were all tied at the top. Naoyuki who was few groups prior from the final group became the clubhouse leader with 15 under and waited for the other players to finish.

Ryuko Tokimatsu made a miss shot on his 2nd at 18th and ended up with bogey. Also, Katsumasa Miyamoto in the final group bogeyed 18th, and these 2 finished at 2T with Yuta Uetake, Eric Sugimoto, and Todd Beak.

Ryo Ishikawa who once had the solo lead failed to come through but getting caught on 16th and 18th. Ryo came to the 18th tied at the top with 15 under, but his tee shot plunged in the water which ended up as double bogey to finish at 13 under 7T.

At the awarding ceremony, Players' Committee Chairman and this Tournament's Chairman Ryuko Tokimatsu who lost by just 1 shot, presented the winner's trophy to Naoyuki.

Naoyuki seemed very nervous on his victory speech. First of all, Naoyuki sent out his appreciations to the Players' Committee for organizing this tournament, great support from the special sponsor Sato Shokuhin and also the Nishi Nasuno CC for their efforts.
Then he went on to conclude with very short but well thought comments.
"I never expected that I could win today. Actually, it hasn't hit me yet. But I am grateful that I was able to win on my 4th challenge as a Pro."
