ANA Open Golf Tournament 2021
Ryuko Tokimatsu makes good start at ANA Open 1R who has been missing the CUT all summer
On Par 5 9th, his 2nd shot was stuck in the divot.
"When I saw my ball being on the divot, I was depressed, but I was able to hit mt 3rd to the collar of the green and made 5-meter with my putter for birdie, so after all I was happy."
He stumbled on his starting hole 10th, by hitting way right into the tree and ended up making bogey.
"My shots are not stable lately. I have missed making the cutline for 3 tournaments after Japan PGA. I have no earnings for July and August. Zero prize money and it is hitting hard on my wallet. With my driving distance, I must find fairway and give myself a chance for birdies on my 2nd on. Today, I think I was able to do that, and it turned out on my score."
His shots were back, and he was able to make 4 straight birdies from 3rd hole, his back nine, to get on the roll.
ANA Open had to cancel in 2018 due to the earthquake disaster, and also in 2020 for pandemic. Ryuko had his chances but lost on the playoffs twice at ANA Open.
"Past Players Chairmen's, as Yuta Ikeda and Ryo Ishikawa, all have won here. They are busy outside of the course too, but still, they are always in contention and has great talents. I am on the other hand must work and practice a lot or I get very anxious. Especially with this pandemic and my obligations as Players Chairman, I lose time to practice and that result in making careless mistakes on the course due to lack of confidence. But I don't want to make that as excuse. I am glad that I am getting these valuable experiences."
Ryuko has 10 more tournaments until his term ends.
"I only have 3 more month, so I want to finish well and pass on the job to my successor with honor."
Former Players Chairmen's, Ryo Ishikawa has won 3 times during his term (2018-2019), Yusaku Miyazato has won 4 times (2016-2017), and Yuta Ikeda has won 3 times (2013-2015).
"All the predecessors have won during their terms, so I want to be able to do so, and live up to the honor."
