ANA Open Golf Tournament 2021
Could be "three time's a charm"? Tomoharu Otsuki heads to Sunday as solo leader
"I just started my diet with no intensions."
As he said, he is challenging his diet but with no cause, so he doesn't know how much he weights now.
"I don't get on the scale, since it would be stressful. If I start to take my kg to seriously, then I have to hold off on my appetite. I rather do this diet stress free."
As for his diet he is stress free, but for his golf, he has been under a lot of stress.
"I have been so close to winning since last year, but I always end up not making it. Yeah, stress is building up."
Tomoharu's Saturday charge was great. He played bogey free round of 64, but his words were not so optimistic.
"I don't think my performance was satisfying enough to be sure of the victory."
He is 15 under total after 3R, and has 2 stroke lead against the field, but he is sure that is not enough cushion to rely on. He has lost last year's Dunlop Phoenix and this year's Golf Partner ProAm, even though he started out the final round as the leader. Also, he was so close to winning but failed to come through at last year's JT Cup, this year's Sansan KBC Augusta and Fuji Sankei Classic.
"Maybe I must make drastic changes to win, but I am afraid that will make my game to fall apart."
He has taken out this week, but he has been trying out 46.75-inch 1W. This is one challenge he is making an effort to gain more distance as he wishes to try out abroad in the future.
"I thought I should try getting more length before I go abroad. So, I am preparing in many ways. I actually gained additional 15-20 yards on my carry. But having even 1 inch longer makes big difference and when it's 2 inches, the timing is totally different."
Tomoharu's challenges are paying out, as Ryosuke Kinoshita was surprised to see Tomoharu gaining plenty more distances on his shots.
"But I don't want to change may basic swing. I think I am on a right track."
He is being very patient and waiting for his chance, which may finally come to him tomorrow.
