Japan Open Golf Championship 2021
Ren Yonezawa accomplished his 1st crowning of Best Amateur title winning through the intense battle
He started off as 6th among the amateurs with 1 over par at 57T on leader board, but played with bogey free 68. On the other hand, Kosuke Suzuki, who was sitting as 1st position among the amateurs suffered difficult windy condition in the mornings to score 10 over par for the day and gave away the top position.
Ren has been challenging this Japan Open for 4 years, since his freshman year in university and finally has made the crown.
"Until last year, I was just few shots away from winning this title. I am very glad that I was able to close with accomplishing the prestige title."
He will be challenging the Regular Tour's QT from third stage. He has been building his muscles to prepare for turning professional nest season. That muscular body has given him more distance and powerful fitness to avoid injuries.
"But I did lose my tough on short games, and I was haunted with negative images. I wanted to achieve good results on the reaming amateur tournaments and get my confidence back, so that I will be able to start well next season as a professional."
Keita Nakajima, who became the 5th amateur to win on the Regular Tour, finished with total 6 over at 68T. He suffered back injury a week after that magnificent victory. He was still not 100% but was able to fight hard for 4 rounds this week.
"My back pain is still there but so many have supported me, and I am very grateful. I am ashamed of my result and have many regrets, but I am just happy that I was able to play this week."
Next week, Keita will be in US PGA and JGTO co-sanctioned ZOZO Championship, with the sponsor invitation. Ryo Ishikawa's young brother, Wataru will be on his bag. They will head to the course and start practicing from Tuesday. He might have the chance to play the practice rounds with Olympic Medalist Collin Morikawa.
"I will try to have as many communication with him as possible and want to learn his sportsmanship and great character."
