Yuki won his 1st Tour victory at 2018 Japan Open. Tomoyasu then didn't have the Tour Card since he failed at the QT 3rd, but he earned his way into the Japan Open by fighting through the qualifiers. He missed the cut, but he made his first double-eagle on 1R's 14th. He came back to the tournament on Sunday to congratulate his "brother" Yuki.
Few years later in 2020, Yuki accomplished to win his 2nd Japan Open title, and finally, Tomoyasu was able to win his 1st Tour victory last week.
"Yuki called me on Saturday night and said, he will be waiting for me at the 18th green. He kept his promise and gave me a big water shower to congratulate me. I gave him a hug and said, thanks for getting me wet so bad."
Thanks to the last week's win, Tomoyasu received the ticket to this week's Major.
"This Major has great history, and this is one of the big titles that all the players want to win. I know that I am not among the level to become the winner, but I will focus on each and every shot and hopefully that will lead to a good result."
On Monday and Tuesday, Tomoyasu went around to thank many who has been supporting him. He came into the Biwako CC on Wednesday and took enough time to practice.
"Japan Open's setting is known to have narrow fairways, thick roughs, and compressed greens. It is much tough settings from regular tournaments. I know how tough the task I am facing."
His affiliated course, Lake Wood GC was filled with congratulation bouquets.
"It was like flower garden. Seeing those flower baskets made he realize that I have really won. I was congratulated by the Chairman of the Lake Wood. He said that, in techniques I not much different from other professionals, but I was chosen because of my humble character. He said that he is happy to have trusted and supported me."
