Japan Open Golf Championship 2021
Shaun Norris takes the outright lead with expanding his margin to 5 shots at total 18 under par
He was co-leader with Yuta Ikeda in final group. Shaun made 7-meter on Par 3 5th for a birdie, then on next 6th, he made a chip-in birdie from back left side of the green. On 7th, his 2nd shot was all over the pin for easy birdie, and on 8th again his 2nd shot was so great that it hit the flagpole. He made the 2-meter for 4 consecutive birdies.
He made the turn with 3 shots margin, but Shaun was still very aggressive.
"I will go for 8 shots margin on my back nine."
As he stated, he made birdies on 10th and 12th. He did face a trouble on 14th, as his tee shot landed close to the tree trunk in the roughs, but with great short game, he saved 2-meter par putt with a fist pump.
On Par 5 16th, his 2nd shot was caught in the sand and left himself with 5-meter birdie putt, but he nailed that putt with no problem.
Shaun has 5 shots lead with total 18 under par, but this 18 under was the tournament best score record set by Jumbo Ozaki back in 1994 (then it was Par 72), so Shaun's renewal of that best score is another factor to what out for tomorrow.
Shaun has been with the Japan Tour since 2016. He has won 5 times, including Japan Golf Tour Championship in 2017.
"It is always wonderful to play in Japan as people are all so warm and welcoming."
Shaun has been making appearance at South Africa Open, co-sanctioned by South Africa and UPGA Tours, since he turned professional in 2001.
"This year, the South African Open is scheduled in December, so I won't be able to join JT Cup."
He chose to be absent from the season finale, because he is so passionate about his home country tournament.
"If I could win both in Japan and home country, that will be great."
