ABC Golf Club's slick and fast greens are said to be faster than that of Major settings. Tomohiro Ishizaka, who made debut last September as still a student and Tour rookie couldn't play at ABC Golf Club last year since it was cancelled due to pandemic.
So, this is Tomohiro's first challenge at ABC Golf Club and at first, he said, "This is the fastest green in my life. My shots were successfully on the green, but I couldn't make the putts on my 1R, but I guess I am gradually getting the hang of it."
He was showing his great adjustment to the green on continuous tough holes in the back nine. He made 4 consecutive birdies from 13th, including long putts on 13th for 7-meter, 6-meter on 14, 10-meter on 16th. He closed the day with another birdie with a great short game from the roughs to score 66. He will be co-leader with total 13 under par going into final round.
"Today's goal was to score 5 under, but I was able to make 1 additional."
It has only been a year since his debut, but this will be his 4th final group on final round. On the moving Saturday, he was in the group with Shingo Katayama, who has 31 Tour victories and Lifetime Tour Card, and Hideto Tanihara, who has 14 Tour victories and has experience on EPGA Tours.
"When I saw the paring, I got really nervous. Both are such a great players. But then I told myself to don't get cold feet and be aggressive."
His mental toughness showed from the starting hole as he made a great tee shot and his 2nd shot from 122 yards with 51 degrees wedge darted to 1-meter for birdie. Last year on his junior year at Nippon Wellness University, he lost against Takumi Kanaya at Dunlop Phoenix in November. He has had great chances for the win but hasn't been able to close the deal yet.
"I will fight hard tomorrow for the win."
Prolonged 2020-21 season only has 5 more tournaments left. This 22 years old super rookie will fight tough until the very end.
