Amateur Taiga Sugihara on his last days as amateur wishes to make "best game ever" tomorrow

Aiming to achieve the "Lowest Amateur Award" used to be the biggest wish for an amateur to challenge on the professional tournaments. But nowadays, amateurs on top portion of the leader board all says the same goal, "I want to win on Tour as an amateur".

This trend started with Ryo Ishikawa in 2007, followed by Hideki Matsuyama in 2011, Takumi Kanaya in 2019 and Keita Nakajima this year, and now it is becoming a standard for top amateurs to aim for.

Taig Sugihara, a senior at Tohoku Fukushi University has announced that this tournament will be the last one to attend as an amateur and, he wants to accomplish the goal as all the other super star amateurs has done.

He couldn't close the round with an eagle today, but his 2nd shot only had 166 yards and with 9I, he placed it to 2.5-meter.

"Distance is my advantage, and it has been working great this week."

He did stumble a bit on his front nine as he made bogey on 2nd and got caught in 6th to suffer double bogey.

"But I was able to shift my mind and get focused."

He made 3 birdies on his back nine and finished as 4T, 3 strokes behind the leader.

He has won at 2019 AbemaTV Tour Ryo Ishikawa everyone Project Challenge.

"Since I am in good position, I will play my best to grab the victory."

Taiga is scheduled to try out for QT 3rd at the end of November, so he didn't apply for the Asian Pacific Amateur Championship, which was won by Keita Nakajima and was awarded with a ticket to The Masters.

"Keita is World's No.1 Amateur, and I respect him. I have sent him congratulating message right after he won. But he is 1 grade younger than me so, I must not let him surpass me so easily. That is my strong motivation."

Keita Nakajima won the Panasonic Open in September and became 5th amateur to win on the professional Tour, and Taiga is willing to follow right after by winning this week.

"Tomorrow is my last day to play on the tournament as an amateur so, I want to play without making any regrets. I wish I could perform my best ever game tomorrow."
