Hideto Tanihara's great buddy & respected caddy Takuya Taniguchi
Hideto Tanihara captured his career 15th victory just 2 days before his birthday. Many of his disciples were anxious if they could rush to him and give celebrating water shower or not. They were hesitating to surprise him, so it was up to Hideto's caddy, Takuya Taniguchi, who also is 2-time winner on the Tour and has been Hideto's ace caddy.
"Hideto said, okay", called out Takuya, and many rushed toward Hideto to give plenty of water shower. Then totally drenched Hideto cried out, "guys! It's freezing, at least have the consideration of using room temperature water and not refrigerated ones!"
Takuya ran towards Hideto with towel and jacket to put on. 18th green was filled with laughter.
"Hideto has really strong heart and mind. I really admire him", said Takuya. Hideto started out as leader with only 1 shot margin. He made great start by making birdies on 2nd and 3rd, and at one point his lead was extended to 4 strokes. But he suffered 3 putt bogeys on 11th and 13th, then with plunging in the water hazard on 14th gave Takumi Kanaya the chance to catch up. But Hideto's mental state was calm. "I knew that Takumi will eventually catch up with me. I am continuing to be a professional to enjoy this excitement."
Takuya told us that Hideto hurt his back as he was packing this morning.
"He took pain medicine and was saying that he may not be able to swing his club today. But he never said a word about his pain during the round, and on that final putt, he said to me I will definitely make it, and he did. This season he had so many chances to win but couldn't get it done until today. I admire his fighting spirit that he never gives up."
Takuya and Hideto has been friends since junior days. 2-time Tour winner Takuya decided to caddy for Hideto occasionally since 2017's US Open. Takuya was with Hideto for several tournaments during the 2 years on EPGA Tours. They have been fully making the pair since this season.
"I really respect his challenging spirit. He had such a hard time in EPGA Tour, but he still says he wants to go and challenge again after the pandemic. I want the young player to learn from him."
Hideto has been taking really good care of the younger players. He takes time to give precise advice, even harsh ones, when he thinks it is necessary.
"I think all of the young players should go and ask Hideto for advice, he will definitely give great hints."
