Taiga Sugihara ends his last game as amateur, pledges to return as professional next season

Taiga Sugihara has been declaring that this week was going to be his last tournament as an amateur. He started out at 4T, 3 shots behind the leader and aimed to become the 6th amateur to win on the Regular Tour. 2 predecessors, Hideki Matsuyama and Takumi Kanaya have accomplished that record on SMBC VISA Taiheiyo Master

Taiga's final rounds wasn't good as he expected. He played with 3 birdies and 4 bogeys to score 71. Finished as 8T.

"I lost accuracy on my tee shots, and I couldn't hit my 2nd shot from preferrable positions and failed to get on the green. My short game didn't help me either and putts wouldn't go in. It was really tough round for me. I have learned that my level is still not there yet. But I am happy that I have achieved Lowest Amateur Award, since I haven't received it this season. I am glad that I was able to finish total 2 under on such a difficult course. This gave me confidence and I want to praise myself for the effort."

Taiga will now prepare for the QT 3rd at the end of this month.

"I will prepare well and try to make my way to this tournament as a professional nest year."
