Dunlop Phoenix Tournament 2021

Shota Akiyoshi 2T just 1 shot behind the leader says he likes to chase rather than being chased

Shota Akiyoshi was co-leader as he reached final 18th, but as he recalled, "I slipped my feet and topped the ball" on the 2nd shot from the fairway. He reached the green with his 4th shot and 2 putted for bogey finish.

Missing the 2-meter par saving putt was symbolizing his day.

"With my great shot, I should have made 4 more birdies. But I kept losing the chance with my putter."

His great putting was 7-meter on 13th and another right after on 14th.

"I had quite few chances, but I just couldn't make the 4 to 5-meter putts. Ending with a bogey on a Par 5 is really disappointing. But I do like chasing rather than being chased."

Both of his wins, 2018 Mizuno Open and Dunlop Srixon Fukushima Open was come from behind win. On the opposite, the tournaments he started out as leader on the Final Round, such as Chunichi Crowns and SMBC VISA Taiheiyo Masters, he was defeated.

"I wanted to overcome the bad jinx, but to think it positively, I may be able to make the come from behind win. I know that winning as the leader from the start is cool. But I do like to chase. I hope I could win and show my appreciation to the sponsor as one of the Dunlop contracted player."
