14th year professional Daisuke Kataoka was very energetic as he welcomed the guests at the Pro-Am game on Wednesday.
"The tournament was cancelled last year due to pandemic, so I want to place 2 years' worth of love and energy to make this year's game exciting."
Daisuke's hometown in Kochi Prefecture and he is also affiliate professional of this week's venue Kochi Kuroshio CC.
"Unfortunately, I couldn't come back here for 6 months due to pandemic."
So, he was fully energetic to make this 40th anniversary year tournament to be a big success.
Big ceremony was not allowed to prevent infections, but in small group get togethers, Daisuke was the longest one to chat with the guest.
He was diagnosed with facial nerve paralysis in November last year. Hugh stress was said to be the cause. He couldn't blink or open his mouth freely. He was hospitalized as the symptoms got worse. He lost focus on his eyesight and a golf ball would look double or even triple to him. Now he is better but needs to wipe his tears all the time and carries towel everywhere.
"I feel very relaxed when I come here. I do feel the pressure of being the tournament hosting professional, but I think I could turn that into a power to concentrate."
Kuroshio Kanko Kaihatsu, the owning company of Kochi Kuroshio CC was so caring for Daisuke during his rehabilitation.
"They cared so much for me. They told me not to worry and concentrate on my treatment."
Daisuke is currently 131 on the Money List. He gained his appearance this week with sponsor invitation. As soon as he came back to Kochi Prefecture last week, he went around to thank so many who have supported him.
"There are so many more who I must thank. Best way to do so is to play well this week."
He will be facing 3rd QT next week, but if he finished with in solo 3rd this week, he does have the chance to earn the Tour Seed at the last moment.
"I want to put that chance in my mind and play focused and well"
Daisuke will challenge to win his career 4th victory on his home course.
