Casio World Open Golf Tournament 2021
Junya Kameshiro 69th in Money List aiming to get above the borderline made hopeful good start
Players who are fighting extremely hard to achieve their Tour Seed for the next year by making into above 65th on the Money List, have made great starts on 1R of Casio World Open.
5th year professional Junya Kameshiro is one of them. He now stands at 69th on the Money List. He played his 1R alongside with Tatsuya Kodai, who is at 65th, on the borderline.
"This paring is message to me saying, it is all up to me. I am told to fight with my own pressure."
Junya was able to fight off his pressure and made great round to score of 67. He had bogey on 2nd, and he was not stable on putting in his front nine, but Junya says, "From 12th I was able to make great touch on putting", and he made 15-meter for a birdie.
"From that birdie, I was able to match my putting to the line I read."
He birdied on the next 13th, and also closed the round with today's second back-to-back birdies. He finished as 5 under and joined 7-way tie at 3rd.
Junya is from Tokushima Prefecture. He has accomplished many titles from his junior days and in 2014 on his sophomore year in Osak Gakuin University, he won the Shikoku Amateur Championship. Then as a captain on his university team, he won the Japan Amateur Championship in 2016.
He was blessed with great hope as he turned professional but failed on QT in the same year. He challenged Asian Tour to build his experience. Then he tried out for the special QT during the pandemic, and finished 3rd to claim his exemption to the Regular Tour this season. Now he is facing the battle to secure his Tour Seed for next year by making his way up the Money Rankings to within the borderline 65th.
Outside of the rope today at Kochi Kuroshio CC, was he supporting team and many of his university friends. Thanks to the warm cheers, he was able to make great start on 1R.
"Tatsuya Kodai was also playing well with 3 under for today, but it is all up to me. I am playing well and if I could maintain my golf, I think I could have the chance to climb up the ladder. I want to play each and every shot with no regrets."
