Super rookie, and current No.3 on Money Rankings, Takumi Kanaya jumped up big to 2T on Saturday. Now he is just 3 strokes behind the leader.
Including 12-meter on Par 3 2nd for birdie, he made 3 birdies on his front nine. But he stumbles on Par 3 11th as his tee shot misses the green to the right. He also 3-putted for bogey on15th.
Then at reachable Par 4 16th, with today's yardage of 315, Takumi aimed to get it on, but his tee shot was buried in the deep roughs over the green.
"It wasn't easy shot, but I knew that if I could make good distance control, I could get it close."
His SW shot became a chip-in eagle, which Takumi referred as " a lucky break which is necessary to win".
He finished with total of 11 under, just 3 shots behind.
"Today was the toughest round out of past 3 days. I gained confidence playing very well in this condition."
Tomorrow will be his 6th final group on Sunday, including his amateur days.
As for Takumi's ultimate goal, Order of Merit race, difference between current No.1 Chan Kim and Takumi is 22,092,606-yen. If Takumi accomplishes to win his 3rd victory of the season tomorrow, with the winner's prize of 40 million yen, he would be back as No.1 again.
"I want to make big score again tomorrow and aim to win."
Today, amateur Keita Nakajima played bogey free round with 1 eagle, 3 birdies to score 67 and jumped up to 7th.
"He must be tired from constantly playing on tournaments, but he made great performance no matter what. That is his great potential."
Keita Nakajima, who won the Asian-Pacific Amateur received the ticket to next year's The Masters and asked Takumi to get into World Ranking Top 50 and join him.
"I must push myself and get into World Ranking Top 50 and answer to Keita's invitation."
