Battle for the Order of Merit race will be all over tomorrow. There many be slim chance left for No.4 Money Ranker Rikuya Hoshino to win tomorrow and over through the current No.1 Chan Kim. But after the 3R, Rikuya seemed pale and spoke negatively. He finished as total 7 under and at 4T. His first words were "I couldn't play well enough".
He knew the importance of the "moving Saturday", but he started off making bogey on 4th. He had been making lip outs on his front nine. He had so many makable putts but just didn't fall in. But suddenly, he made 3 birdies in a row from 9th, and all the putts were tough ones.
"9th putt was 5-meter up and down putt with broke hard to left. On 10th it was 8-meter, and it was steep right angle. Then on 11 th was 7-meter gentle left to right line."
Thanks to this 3 consecutive birdies, he rose to 9 under just 1 stroke behind the leader.
"I was able to get on the roll. But I made deeply regretful mistakes on 12th and 16th. I got caught in the bunker with the shot I made from fairway, and another one was from 130 yards and pushed it over right side. These 2 mistakes won't be erased even I made birdie on 17th. I reached 9 under and I had chance holes, but I fell backwards and stumbled. I knew that 3R was really important, so I am very disappointed. Now I have 4 shots deficit. I must make big charge tomorrow. But I do like to chase rather than being chased. So, I will swallow this tough round as a burden I must overcome and shift my mind for tomorrow's round. My goal is to win, so I will move aggressively from the front nine and try to place pressure on the leader."
Only 2 players have succeeded and becoming Order of Merit Champion flipping the Money Ranking differences. Both Shingo Katayama and Yusaku Miyazato were No.2 coming into the JT Cup when they have accomplished that task. Rikuya is now at No.4, so if he accomplishes, it will be a historical upset.
Current No.1 Chan Ki, finished at 2 under, 14T.
"I was concerned about the leader board and noticed the Rikuya was making his way up. If he wins, he will take the reign, but I can't stop his performance. If he wins, I am prepared to congratulate him, but I will do my best tomorrow and wait for the result. "
