Japan Golf Tour Championship Mori Building Cup Shishido Hills 2021
Yuki Furukawa provisionally in 2T thanks to Shugo's advice on Shishido Hills management
"I got up at 4am but we are very lucky to finish the round before the storm gotten worse."
Rain got heavier as the day went by, but Yuki managed to play well enough with 1 over for the day.
"I knew it was going to be really tough round today."
As he predicted, he started out making a bogey on 1st hole. Shot making got almost impossible on the difficult back nine holes. Yuki was able to make G.I.R. only at 12th hole alone.
But he was saved by the tips by 2 years in a row Order of Merit Champion, Shugo Imahira. Yuki was lucky to join Shugo on the practice round and learned how to make smart course management.
"I usually take time to work on green undulations, but Shugo was repeatedly practicing making short games from the deep roughs surrounding the green. He told me to open my club face and avoid burring the ball in the roughs. He taught me a lot. His advice saved me today. I was able to get up to 1.5-meter to the pin from the deep roughs on 12th. Thanks to Shugo I was able to manage and play under par today."
Yuki was very satisfied with his round today.
"Final group hasn't even started their round yet, so I will watch them on TV. I am glad that I have plenty of time to relax and rest."
His family back home is all excited and praying for his victory at this Major.
"Since this Major is broadcasted Live, and I received many messages from my family and friends that they saw my play on TV. That motivates me."
