Kunihiro Kamii eager to get "the monkey" off his back on his 8th challenge as Final Group in Sunday
16th years as a Pro, Kunihiro Kamii is facing his 8th challenge to be in the final group on the Final Round to make his 1st ever Tour victory dream come true. Kunihiro will go onto Sunday as one of the co-leaders, along with Rikuya Hoshino and Chan Kim.
It was back in 2010 at VanaH Cup KBC Augusta, he made his first challenge being in the final group on the Final Round. He made his 2nd Hole-in-One of the week on 8th hole, engraved his name on the World Guinness Records, but ended at 5th.
"That day I was nervous wreck. I told myself not to think too much but nothing worked. But it has been 10 years from now and I am 38 years old, I could be calm and patient now. I will place all of the efforts that I have been working on and enjoy the play."
Especially, he has many chores on the way, as house caddies are not available again this week, due to COVID-19 precautions.
"I totally forgot about it, and I had to rent electrical assisted pull-cart and do everything on my own. Everything from calculating the yardages, reading the line, raking the bunkers and cleaning the ball, etc. I got really tired of it all. It was grateful that caddies from the other players offer to help me out."
Kunihiro has become so close to winning but had to finished as runner-up in 2017 RIZAP KBC Augusta, also in 2018 Chunichi Crowns, and this Kansai Open as well.
"I do regret those lost, but I am much mature now. I am just so grateful that we get to play, and I am enjoying my golf. I hope I could keep this feeling tomorrow too."
Could this "silver collector" close the deal tomorrow?
