Kansai Open Golf Championship 2021
Kosei Takeyama became the "Lowest Amateur" among the elite young star players
Kosei's score was R1 73, R2 66, and R3 70, and he managed to score 69 on the windy final Sunday to end at 6 under total at 16T to grab his title.
"This was my first time to make the cutline on the professional tournament and I am so happy that I was able to become the Lowest Amateur. This title definitely gives me confidence."
He first appeared at Kansai Open in 2013, and this year was his 3rd challenge. This week was his 5th challenges on the professional tournament and is going home with a big prize.
During The Masters, his university's golf team was at training camp, and the all got up early to cheer for their senior, Hideki Matsuyama.
"We were so nervous at some of the holes as Hideki suffered some troubles, but at the end Hideki came through. I cannot imagine how hard he has worked to achieve that goal. I was really excited and overwhelmed with joy seeing him win."
On that historical day, training camp was like a party. Couldn't concentrate on their practices. When Hideki comes back to Japan, he always finds time to drop by and teach them some tips.
"Hideki has told us so many things. I remember every word of the advice he has given me."
"But I don't he would recognize me. I am one of the crowd. I hope I could get noticed my him soon."
Kosei is still thinking whether to turn Pro next years or not. Takumi Kanaya is 1 grade elder in his university, and he is a bit closer to him rather than Hideki, who is above clouds for him.
"Takumi is also known for his great efforts. I have seen him practice so much since I was a Freshman. I once told Takumi that I want to become like you, and he replied, if you keep on trying you will eventually."
Hideki's sprit is passed on to Takumi and many including Kosei are following on their footsteps.
