Many fellow players wish for Kunihiro Kamii to achieve his 1st victory after 17 years as Pro
"Making 2 eagles, you are awesome."
Kunihiro replied with sinical jokes, and laughter broke around him. He is always surrounded with smiles. Few years ago, this sort of situation wasn't around him at all.
"Of course, few years ago, I was the young one and had only one or two younger players than me around here."
Kunihiro is really rare figure on the Tour, being so loved by younger players. Kunihoro turned Pro in 2005. Earned his Tour Card in 2008 but failed to keep it in 2015 season and 2019 season. This season he has been fighting his way up in the cub-tour Challenge Tournaments. Battling against the players 10 years younger than him. There he became like the big brotherly figure and got so close to the young ones.
"I used to be hard to handle when I was in my 20s. I got so irritated and frustrated when I made mistakes. Nowadays I am calm. I don't get upset easily. I have aged and learned that anger does no good."
He had his tough moments on 10th where he bogeyed, after making the turn with 5 under for the first half.
"My shots were good in the beginning, but it started to get unsteady."
He wasn't feeling comfortable with his shots, but he kept a friendly atmosphere with his playing partners.
"I used to lose my patience when I made mistake and make it worse, but now I am able to control my emotions, even enjoy the tough moments."
As he stated, he made a chip-in eagle on Par 4 17th from 20 yards off the green. His second eagle of the day following the one at Par 5 3rd hole. He finished his 3R with 2 shot lead against the field. He has a big chance tomorrow for achieving the 1st Tour victory he has been waiting for 17 years.
"I will stay focused on my game tomorrow, and as the result of that, if victory comes that will be magnificent day. I used to be under so much pressure, but now after the injury and all, I am just so glad that I could play golf. I just want to perform well to send my gratitude to the people supporting me."
