Making a triumphant return to his hometown, Naoyuki Kataoka enjoys his stay back home
"I didin't have time to come back home for a long time, it has been 2 years. I was glad to spend really good time with my parents."
He went back to his family in Hokkaido since August 10 and was able to spend quality time with them.
"My mother's homemade meals are all very great. I ate so much for the past 2 weeks."
August 13th was his mother's birthday, and he gave a high brand wallet to her.
"If I didn't win, I wasn't able to afford it. It is my favorite brand and same wallet as mine with different shape and color. She is not the material type, but I am glad that she was really happy."
Naoyuki also met his old buddies, as he joined the local tournament during his stay.
"I was able to meet up with my friends who I haven't been able to see since we graduated, it was great."
A professional baseball player, Fumiya Motomae of Chiba Lotte Marines is a classmate from his high school. Fumiya has won his first victory back in April, on his first game as starting pitcher.
"I watched him play on TV and was so excited. I was really happy to see him become the winning pitcher, but at the same time, it motivated me. We do play different sports, but we are both fighting hard as professionals, and I felt I must push myself harder. I think that motivation led to my first victory at Japan Players Championship."
Naoyuki's family was looking forward to seeing him play this week, but unfortunately this week will be without spectators due to disease control matters.
"It is very unfortunate, but I know they will be cheering for me through internet broadcast. I wish I could perform well and make them happy."
It rained heavily today. Naoyuki does have home ground advantages.
"But it was very chilly today and the grasses are nasty with the rain too. I had tough time today, but amateur guests must had really tough time playing today."
Naoyuki will be in the grouping with Yosuke Asaji and Takumi Kanaya on his first 2 rounds.
"They both have great accuracy, and I don't. I bet it will be pretty tough for me from the beginning, but I will prepare well and do my best"
