The Crowns 2021
Wago known as "impregnable course" didn't stop Takumi Kanaya to score big to finish at the Top
Takumi who started off from 10th today, made the turn at 1 under, then he went on to top gear. He made 1-meter on 1st, then on Par 4 2nd he made 4-meter for back-to0back birdies. On Par 3 4th, his tee shot with 8I swirled around the pin for tap in and after making 2-meter on 5th, he ended the day by making 1-meter on 9th. He scored 30 on his back nine to come up with 6 under, 1 shot lead against the field.
Magnificent play by Takumi, No.2 Money Ranker and last week's winner Rikuya Hoshino had to applaud.
"Takumi was on the roll on his back nine. Just couldn't catch up", said Rikuya, as he finished 4 shots behind at 23 rd.
Takumi had trouble on his starting hole 10th as he shot way over to the back of the green from the fairways, and had to save 6-meter for Par, but he managed to come through.
"Takumi's strength is his putting. No matter how much he gets in trouble situations, he has his short game and putting to get it done. And when he has the chance, he always makes them too."
Today, Rikuya was playing along with another young gun, 21 years old Tomohiro Ishizaka.
"It was my first time to play with both younger players, and I was planning to behave like a senior to them, but since Takumi was playing so great, I started to talk to him so politely as he were the senior to me. I hope I could do better tomorrow."
On the other hand, Takumi was concentrating on his game only.
"I just think about how I could play better, make better score. I hope I could play as I wish on the final 2 days."
